A preview (hopefully)

Greetings from Galway on the west coast of Ireland, where I've been attending a seminar the past week. I'll be travelling a bit more in England and Ireland before meeting up with the group when they arrive in Dublin the morning of the 22nd.

After a week of rain, wind, and occasional hail, this weekend has been stunning - sunny, dry, and light until 10:00 p.m. Hopefully the group will be treated to this kind of weather when we arrive in Galway at the end of our trip. That happens to coincide with the Volvo Ocean Race (http://www.volvooceanracegalway.ie/), so Galway should be even more vibrant and lively than usual.

Here are a few photos from my stroll along the Salthill prom earlier today.

  1. The top photo looks like it is of the Claddaugh (of Claddaugh ring fame) and the bottom one of the beach on Galway Bay. For those who don't know, Salthill is part of Galway that stretches along the bay. There is a long promenade for walks/runs, a diving platform for diving into the bay (Colleen!), and a place called LeisureLand that has a big ferris wheel along the prom. This is also where Brian and I lived for 8-9 months in 2001-2002. Hopefully we'll all get a chance to have a sunny walk on the prom if we so desire when we get to Galway!
